Up Up and Forever Happiness

Weddings always make me smile. Scratch that…everything related to weddings, including the chaos and drama (as long as I’m not involved and can merely watch!), makes me smile. I love the excitement and the giddiness. But most of all I love the planning and seeing how all the beautiful wedding accessories and decisions come together.

I was enlisted to make cookie favors for an upcoming wedding shower and asked to match the colors and theme of the invitation which was a beautiful hot air balloon. Loved the theme and the romantic tag wording “Love is in the Air” Β πŸ™‚ Excited to use my hot air balloon cookie cutter too πŸ™‚

Hope the bride and groom enjoy these cookies made especially for their special celebration!

All Things Girlie – Part I

It’s no surprise that most little girls like pink and purple. But what it is they like in pink and purple can cover a wide range of things. For instance, my daughter would request her banana purple if I could do that magic trick every morning πŸ˜‰

While I have two little girls, my daughters are still young and seem to be more interested in climbing walls and playing in the dirt than in girly activities. So this week was a treat and I got to dabble in the “girly” with my cookies πŸ™‚

2 birthdays, 3 little girls, 2 of them twins, and lots and lots of pink and purple! I of course had to make an extra cookie of each design for my daughter to see how she reacted to the girly designs. She loved them!!! Hopefully the birthday girls all like their little princesses and fairies as much as my daughter did πŸ™‚

Happy 1st Birthday Ellie and Natalie! Ellie, after devouring your pixie fairy, you should really thank your Mom for entering your picture in the Dastardly Do bed head contest so you could win these cookies for your party! Your Mom definitely knows a good picture opportunity when she sees one πŸ˜‰

Safari Fever!

One of my dearest friends is adopting an adorable little boy and this weekend was her adoption shower. Her sister did such a great job organizing everything and the safari theme couldn’t have been more perfect!! I offered to make cookie favors for all the guests…to be honest, there’s really nothing I wouldn’t have done to help, but this is an area I’m definitely comfortable with πŸ˜‰

Decided to do three different safari animals based on the cartoon animals on the invites.

Lion

Zebra

and Giraffe

I cannot wait for my friend to bring home her son. Such an exciting year for them!!! She and her hubby are going to make amazing parents :)))

Can You Tell Me How To Get…

…how to get to Sesame Street!! Love that show. Grew up watching that show. It brings me joy knowing the show is still around and is still wildly popular with the little ones πŸ™‚ Out of all the cookies I’ve made this year, the sesame street characters are my top sellers. Yeah! I love making cookies for people but more than that, I love bringing smiles to little kids faces πŸ™‚ So sweet!

Thought I’d share my Sesame Street journey..

My Work Strategy

Everyone does things differently. Even if it looks like it was done the same way as someone else, I’m guessing the way their mind worked to get to the end result was different. I find myself spacier and spacier the older I get, not to mention how many more things I need to keep track of on a daily basis. Where did that sippy of milk go from two days ago?? Did I wash that dress I want her to wear to the birthday party? Oh lord, there better be enough eggs for this… and the list goes on and on. So I find myself relying heavily upon lists. Lists are my savior. Hallelujah for lists!

Side tangent complete and now back to how everyone does things differently. I figured I’d show the stages I go through for a somewhat complex cookie order. I’d LOVE to hear how others would have done it or tips for saving time. Believe me…I could use either more time or more efficiency so bring on the suggestions!!

First step is to draft out the design

Once any design wrinkles are ironed out and the concept is complete…

I move on to outlining which colors are needed for each design. It’s now that I also list what areas I’m planning on doing first and second. The “A” column indicates the first layer I’ll do. Once that’s complete (usually over night) I move on to the colors/items in column “B”. I’ve never had to do more than 3 layers but I’m still waiting for that challenge to present itself πŸ™‚

After I list what colors are for what areas, I write down a complete list of colors I need and begin coloring my icing

Thank god for lists right!! I guess I could mix up all my “layer A” colors first Β and the next night mix up the “layer B” colors, but I’d rather do it all in one shot. Once the icing is all mixed together and thinned out to the right consistency, I begin piping and flooding.

And continue with the second layers until the cookies begin to take shape

Until the cookie is complete πŸ™‚ Love how these turned out. What a fabulously creative idea…kudos Robin!!

Live Love Laugh

I am so excited about this weeks order. A woman found my business card at the local YMCA and called to inquire about cookie favors for her 40th birthday party. “But Of Course!” was my response πŸ™‚ She sent along a picture of her invitation and I fell in love with the colors instantly!

Amazing colors right! She wanted 3 dozen vanilla and 3 dozen chocolate. I couldn’t wait to recreate the design…fun fun fun!

First step after baking all those cookies was to flood the back ground.

The next step involved brainstorming how to get the 40’s onto the cookie. In the past I have traced printouts using edible markers and piped over that, but this time around I wanted to try a new technique. I recently saw a post by the amazingly talented Sweet Sugar Belle where she used a push pin to poke a center outline on a flooded cookie. I definitely thought this would work well for the size of cookie and printout, so instead of poking the center I used a toothpick and poked the corners of a 40 template, connecting the dots afterwards with icing.

Not only is this woman celebrating 40 years of life, she’s also celebrating her 1 year anniversary since completing her cancer treatments. YEAH!!! So literally, she’s celebrating LIFE! She asked to have the words Live, Love and Laugh on the cookie and I thought it was incredibly fitting. In fact, it’s my new favorite quote πŸ™‚

And of course, a favor isn’t complete without an adorable tag in coordinating colors. Happy Birthday Virginia!!!

More Adorable First Communion Favors

So excited to have been asked to create 1st communion favors for a friend of a friend. I hadn’t met her or her family until the cookie delivery but I could tell she was an amazing person through our email exchanges. She had a few design ideas for her son’s event and so I demo’ed up a few options. She picked the design I liked best, going to show she was as cool as I thought she was going to be πŸ˜‰ I was excited to get started!

Blue and White… were our colors of choice. We decided on an oval cookie with swirls and a nice solid blue cross in the center. In a way, the swirls coming down from the top looked like rays from the heavens…I loved the thought of that! Β They turned out very sweet and I hope Mitch has a memorable 1st communion and an amazing party with his family!

Om Nom Nom Nom

My amazingly adorable niece turned two recently and her birthday party was this weekend. I know I’m partial, but my lord she is the cutest thing ever!! Such a cutie and growing so darn fast! My sister-in-law, who is beyond crafty and always knows how to throw a fabulous party asked me to make Cookie Monster cookies for the kiddo’s favor bags. I said, “Of COURSE!” hehe I already had the Elmo and Cookie Monster cutters (thank you to the awesomeΒ Karen’s CookiesΒ for carrying them) so after a couple mock-ups we settled on the most perfect cookie monster ever! I wanted to make fur so I used a #233 tip and off I went. Added some tags with little bites out of them and they were ready to go!

Birthday Favors

I am thrilled to have been asked to create cookies for a friend and wanted to share the pictures πŸ™‚ Her twins, one boy and one girl, just recently turned the big 1 year old!! They are having a family Birthday party this weekend and she asked me to create some favors. Another friend is making pink and blue #1 cupcakes so I decided to follow suit…perfect theme for a 1st Birthday if you ask me :)) Hope they enjoy them as much as I had making them!
