All Things Girlie – Part I

It’s no surprise that most little girls like pink and purple. But what it is they like in pink and purple can cover a wide range of things. For instance, my daughter would request her banana purple if I could do that magic trick every morning 😉

While I have two little girls, my daughters are still young and seem to be more interested in climbing walls and playing in the dirt than in girly activities. So this week was a treat and I got to dabble in the “girly” with my cookies 🙂

2 birthdays, 3 little girls, 2 of them twins, and lots and lots of pink and purple! I of course had to make an extra cookie of each design for my daughter to see how she reacted to the girly designs. She loved them!!! Hopefully the birthday girls all like their little princesses and fairies as much as my daughter did 🙂

Happy 1st Birthday Ellie and Natalie! Ellie, after devouring your pixie fairy, you should really thank your Mom for entering your picture in the Dastardly Do bed head contest so you could win these cookies for your party! Your Mom definitely knows a good picture opportunity when she sees one 😉

Can You Tell Me How To Get…

…how to get to Sesame Street!! Love that show. Grew up watching that show. It brings me joy knowing the show is still around and is still wildly popular with the little ones 🙂 Out of all the cookies I’ve made this year, the sesame street characters are my top sellers. Yeah! I love making cookies for people but more than that, I love bringing smiles to little kids faces 🙂 So sweet!

Thought I’d share my Sesame Street journey..

A Carnival Came to Town

It’s been way too long since I’ve posted anything. I have been swamped with orders and haven’t had time to actually sit down and type out how my orders were created. The few moments I have had away from my piping bags, I’ve spent trying to get my not even 2 year old to sleep in her new toddler bed. Word to the wise…DO NOT encourage them to climb 😉

I just finished an order and seriously had so much fun creating them! It’s always fun when you are given creative control. I always sit down and think “The world is your oyster! Go for it!!” hehe Well, not really but I do get giddy thinking about what I can do.

The order was for a combined birthday party for a 2 year old boy and his 4 year old sister. The theme was Carnival/Circus. Grandpa wanted to give his grandkids something special so he requested clowns for his grandson and carousel horses for his granddaughter…pink and purple horses to be exact. I hope Princess likes her beautiful horses and Prince loves his funny clown faces 🙂 I know I do!

Live Love Laugh

I am so excited about this weeks order. A woman found my business card at the local YMCA and called to inquire about cookie favors for her 40th birthday party. “But Of Course!” was my response 🙂 She sent along a picture of her invitation and I fell in love with the colors instantly!

Amazing colors right! She wanted 3 dozen vanilla and 3 dozen chocolate. I couldn’t wait to recreate the design…fun fun fun!

First step after baking all those cookies was to flood the back ground.

The next step involved brainstorming how to get the 40’s onto the cookie. In the past I have traced printouts using edible markers and piped over that, but this time around I wanted to try a new technique. I recently saw a post by the amazingly talented Sweet Sugar Belle where she used a push pin to poke a center outline on a flooded cookie. I definitely thought this would work well for the size of cookie and printout, so instead of poking the center I used a toothpick and poked the corners of a 40 template, connecting the dots afterwards with icing.

Not only is this woman celebrating 40 years of life, she’s also celebrating her 1 year anniversary since completing her cancer treatments. YEAH!!! So literally, she’s celebrating LIFE! She asked to have the words Live, Love and Laugh on the cookie and I thought it was incredibly fitting. In fact, it’s my new favorite quote 🙂

And of course, a favor isn’t complete without an adorable tag in coordinating colors. Happy Birthday Virginia!!!

A Week Of Spiders, Stars and Flowers

It has been a LONG week! It started with me pulling my back last Sunday putting my daughter into her car seat on our way to the grocery store. Unfortunately, the “I’ve got to get this stuff done” part of me kicked in and off I trekked to Stop & Shop. Tsk Tsk Tsk  Needless to say, in mid-turn to weigh my mangos, my back completely went out and I was lucky to get out of the store without flopping to the floor. The past few days have been rough, but my amazing husband and family came to the rescue taking care of the house and kids while I rested. Happy to say my back is sore but no longer painful so I’m soooo happy!!!

Amidst the resting of my back, I managed to ice my heart out every night and get all our orders out. Super happy how they all turned out too 🙂

Giant Birthday Cookie

Ok folks…taking you back to my life pre-babies. I realize this was less than 2 years ago but it still seems like another lifetime for me. When I was a working professional, my little home away from homes was in a cubicle downtown Boston. If you’ve ever worked in a cubicle you know there’s not much room or privacy. You (hopefully) quickly become friends with those around you…people I dearly called my cube-mates.

Earlier this week, one of my old cube-mates informed me it was his birthday this weekend and asked for a “giant cookie” made by one of his favorite local businesses (ok I added that but I’m sure he’d agree hehe). I asked what he wanted and here’s what I got:

I’m partial to Dark and White chocolate, Macadamia nuts, pecans, pistachios, walnuts…okay, maybe I better stop while I’m ahead…this list truly goes on! 😀 See what U can do!

Just hope he likes the cookie and it helps him enjoy his birthday 🙂 I have to say…I’m a little jealous of his weekend. Celebrating a birthday and cinco de mayo…fun!! Happy Birthday Rod!So, clearly this project was pretty open to my own designing…time to have fun! I figured chocolate cookie for sure…can’t compete against LilaLoa’s chocolate cookie recipe!! I hadn’t used nuts in any of my cookies but that wasn’t going to stop me! I decided to add a little pistachio crunch around the edges. Was thinking a balloon theme…I mean it’s a birthday right!! I was pretty sure I wanted to do balloons but when I saw CancunCookie’s latest design I knew 100% that’s what I wanted to do. I loved her sky/clouds! The color palette I chose was called Beaded Hues from Design Seeds. And as for the size…well shipping a “giant” cookie wasn’t as easy as I thought it was going to be. So I decided to make the giant cookie 3 smaller cookies that made a giant cookie when placed together 🙂 Still takes up my largest serving platter!!

Om Nom Nom Nom

My amazingly adorable niece turned two recently and her birthday party was this weekend. I know I’m partial, but my lord she is the cutest thing ever!! Such a cutie and growing so darn fast! My sister-in-law, who is beyond crafty and always knows how to throw a fabulous party asked me to make Cookie Monster cookies for the kiddo’s favor bags. I said, “Of COURSE!” hehe I already had the Elmo and Cookie Monster cutters (thank you to the awesome Karen’s Cookies for carrying them) so after a couple mock-ups we settled on the most perfect cookie monster ever! I wanted to make fur so I used a #233 tip and off I went. Added some tags with little bites out of them and they were ready to go!

Milk and Cookies

Yesterday I posted a picture of the Cookie Monster cookies I made for my niece’s 2nd birthday party. The theme of the party was actually “milk and cookies” and so I also made favors for the adults who came to her party. Taking inspiration from the adorable invitations that were sent out, I made the #2 look like a chocolate chip cookie inside baby pink circles. It was the first cookie I made with two cookies (circle and milk bottle) blended together and I have to say it came out pretty good. These cookies were HUGE and took some time to make but they were absolutely adorable. Adorable for my adorable niece’s birthday 🙂

Happy Birthday sweetie girl.

Auntie Kendra loves you so much!!

Happy 1 Year Blogaversary Carrie!

I couldn’t realize how many cool people I would meet through this blog. And when I say “meet” I mean virtually 🙂 One of my fellow cake/cookiers, Carrie, mentioned about a month or so ago that she had been blogging for about a year and that her “blogaversary” was coming up. Having only been blogging since the beginning of the year I can attest this is a very special accomplishment!

I want to congratulate her in proper cake style 🙂 When I saw this cake from My Cake School, I knew instantly it was the one I wanted to make for her.

Happy Birthday/Anniversary Carrie’s Creations!! I know it’s not until April 9th, but I couldn’t wait to say “WAY TO GO!!” I can’t wait to see what creations you have for the 2nd year 🙂

If you haven’t checked out her site before, please stop by…she’s very creative and has some really cute cookies that she’s shown off in various posts 🙂

Caterpillar Ate Quinn’s Fruit

One of my daughter’s adorable friends turned the big 1 year old recently and had a big birthday bash this weekend. His Mommy did such a wonderful job with all the decorations and made the party unbelievably fun and festive. I was honored that she asked me to bake up some cookies for favors.

Sticking with the Very Hungary Caterpillar theme, I envisioned little green caterpillars crawling all over the place. And then it hit me…FRUIT! You can’t let the caterpillars go hungary for too long right? Here’s where the package from Hong Kong comes in! A nice healthy fruit salad for Mr. Caterpillar is just what he needs 🙂

I had a fabulous time decorating these little guys and even got my hubby in on the piping. Although, I had to smile when he complained that his hand hurt after 30 minutes of filling caterpillar sections 😉 Ahhh the life of a cookie decorator!
