ABC’s

I have officially deemed Chris as my funniest customer thus far! OMG she is a riot! I enjoyed every email correspondence as it always made me laugh. I even read her responses to my husband and he laughed! Wish we lived closer…I have a feeling it would be fun to get to know her :)

Chris emailed me last week inquiring about alphabet letters. She signed up to bring cookies to her daughter’s school and self diagnosed herself as being in over her head.  I commend her for recognizing this early on…I would have been elbow deep in flour the day before cookies were due, crying to my husband that “I Can’t Do This!!” ;) So pat on the back Chris!! Here’s how our cookie relationship started:

The tutorials I have just watched on youtube have immediately filled me with dread and made me confront my limitations.
So, I am appealing to you. However, before I even begin to search for letter stencils, make dough, xacto cut out the
letters, make a usable batch of royal icing for the very first time in my life, pipe out the outlines, fill them in,
shake cookies, and poke out bubbles for 26 letters (!!!!) I thought I would solicit an estimate from you if you are
interested and available to do this.

How can I say no to someone that funny! It also reminded me when I started getting into cookies and watched hundreds of YouTube videos. I was terrified as well! And those damn bubbles STILL give me nightmares! Grrr…

Had so much fun decorating these cookies…and fun spelling out mine and my daughter’s names. I would have spelled out my husband’s, but he has repeat letters so he had to sit this one out ;)

The inspiration for the uber cool color scheme was taken directly from the book her daughter’s class was reading :)

Another 40

It seems like I made a lot of cookies for 5 year olds and 40 year olds this year. One of those 40 year old birthdays was none other than my own hubby :) He’s definitely like a good wine…keeps getting better with age :)

Here are the fun cookies I made for his party. I started with a cupcake cutter and squeezed it while pushing it into the dough so it elongated the cutter into a more beer pint glass shape. I also cut off the cherry on the top from the dough so it was more rounded like a head of beer.

I just couldn’t imagine giving little kids beer designed cookies, to I modifyed the design slightly and made the kiddos root beer instead!

Up Up and Forever Happiness

Weddings always make me smile. Scratch that…everything related to weddings, including the chaos and drama (as long as I’m not involved and can merely watch!), makes me smile. I love the excitement and the giddiness. But most of all I love the planning and seeing how all the beautiful wedding accessories and decisions come together.

I was enlisted to make cookie favors for an upcoming wedding shower and asked to match the colors and theme of the invitation which was a beautiful hot air balloon. Loved the theme and the romantic tag wording “Love is in the Air”  :) Excited to use my hot air balloon cookie cutter too :)

Hope the bride and groom enjoy these cookies made especially for their special celebration!

Om Nom Nom Nom

My amazingly adorable niece turned two recently and her birthday party was this weekend. I know I’m partial, but my lord she is the cutest thing ever!! Such a cutie and growing so darn fast! My sister-in-law, who is beyond crafty and always knows how to throw a fabulous party asked me to make Cookie Monster cookies for the kiddo’s favor bags. I said, “Of COURSE!” hehe I already had the Elmo and Cookie Monster cutters (thank you to the awesome Karen’s Cookies for carrying them) so after a couple mock-ups we settled on the most perfect cookie monster ever! I wanted to make fur so I used a #233 tip and off I went. Added some tags with little bites out of them and they were ready to go!

Milk and Cookies

Yesterday I posted a picture of the Cookie Monster cookies I made for my niece’s 2nd birthday party. The theme of the party was actually “milk and cookies” and so I also made favors for the adults who came to her party. Taking inspiration from the adorable invitations that were sent out, I made the #2 look like a chocolate chip cookie inside baby pink circles. It was the first cookie I made with two cookies (circle and milk bottle) blended together and I have to say it came out pretty good. These cookies were HUGE and took some time to make but they were absolutely adorable. Adorable for my adorable niece’s birthday :)

Happy Birthday sweetie girl.

Auntie Kendra loves you so much!!

My Life’s A Zoo

Every once in awhile I sit back and marvel at what my life has become. Just a few short years ago I was busy bustling away as a professional woman…dealing with rush hour traffic, cranky customers, lazy co-workers and trying to find time to “find myself”. Fast forward and here I am a completely different woman…well on the outside at least ;) I’m now a stay at home Mom with two beautiful little girls and a passion for cookies. While the two lives sound vastly different, they really have many many similarities. While I used to work in a zoo…I now draw zoo characters for my almost 2 year old to test her “Mooooo’ing” abilities :) I wouldn’t trade it for the world!!

One of the blogs I stalk, LilaLoa, announced they were having a cookie design contest. I immediately saw my zoo animals and thought “Hey, why not!”. The design contest required that all entries use a certain cookie cutter (which I didn’t have so I used a homemade stencil) and the more creative the better. [Here are the official rules]

What started out like this (pay no attention to my daughter’s scribbles hehe):

Was mixed with 9 different colors of icing:

And turned into this:

I have to say I’d kiss any one of them :) Hope you like them. If you do…visit LilaLoa and vote for me!

Grandma To The Rescue

As any mother of small ones knows, it’s always nice to have help when you can get it. My hubby is traveling next week and as fate would have it my mother was available to fly out and stay with the girls and I. Yeah!! We haven’t seen her since Christmas so this will be a fun week for everyone.

While Grandma is here there are three things on the agenda:

  1. Date Night with the hubby before he takes off for his business trip (we don’t get many of these so we definitely take advantage when grandmas are here!)
  2. Lots of Grandma Shell hugs and kisses!
  3. Cookie practice!!!

Now I better go make a list of cookies to bake and how to decorate them…otherwise I may not get anything done with this “open” sketch book :)

Caterpillar Ate Quinn’s Fruit

One of my daughter’s adorable friends turned the big 1 year old recently and had a big birthday bash this weekend. His Mommy did such a wonderful job with all the decorations and made the party unbelievably fun and festive. I was honored that she asked me to bake up some cookies for favors.

Sticking with the Very Hungary Caterpillar theme, I envisioned little green caterpillars crawling all over the place. And then it hit me…FRUIT! You can’t let the caterpillars go hungary for too long right? Here’s where the package from Hong Kong comes in! A nice healthy fruit salad for Mr. Caterpillar is just what he needs :)

I had a fabulous time decorating these little guys and even got my hubby in on the piping. Although, I had to smile when he complained that his hand hurt after 30 minutes of filling caterpillar sections ;) Ahhh the life of a cookie decorator!

NIGHT 1

FINALE!

Hong Kong Fruit

Lookie what I got this week!! My first international purchase for cookie cutters! I have been having the hardest time finding the right cutters. I search high and low and apparently even eBay ;) After weeks of searching and coming up short, I finally found the best little fruit cutters and incredibly they were the size I needed! The only problem was the seller was in Hong Kong and shipping could take weeks.

Luckily, they came this week because I have special plans for these little cuties! A special little boy is turning 1 in a few weeks and his friend the Very Hungary Caterpillar is looking for his favorite fruit…

Stay tuned!
