Since cookies and treats are out of question for me while I am away, I have asked my friend Kendra of Royal Cookie Designs to guest post for me. I am so excited that she agreed to do so! Take it away, Kendra!

I’m excited to be writing my first guest post! This one is for my new friend Carrie from Carrie’s Creations. She’s so incredibly creative and talented. I didn’t know what to showcase because quite frankly…she’s done it all…and done it amazingly to boot! After days of brainstorming I decided to just do what I do best…cookies. I had a last minute cookie order and decided to take Carrie and her fellow bloggers along for the ride. Here we go!

A friend of mine called and wanted cookies for his mother’s 70th birthday. It was…

Precious Baptism

It seems like I’ve been getting a lot of requests for baptism and first communion favors. Must be in the air!

My most recent cookie challenge was for a little girl’s baptism. Her Mom sent along some photos of baby’s room and a fabric swatch of baby’s bedding. It was the most beautiful dusty rose I’ve ever seen! I tried hard to replicate and hope she likes the colors. Mom wanted vanilla and strawberry, which was cute since the strawberry cookie dough was pink like the bedding! Baby’s room is decorated in cherubs…who wouldn’t want to wake up among those sweet angels :)

I envisioned wispy wings of feathers and used my paint brush to move the icing around for the effect. The hair has some curl to it which I love! When the icing had dried for about 5 minutes I went back with a toothpick and drew in the hair strands, which created curls at the ends. I know baby has light brown hair (peach fuzz!) but pictured curls too :)  I wanted big eyes on the cherubs like those from Precious Moments, but with each attempt the eyes got googlier and googlier. So I had to make an executive decision and went with sleepy eyes. I guess I should practice eyes!

I hope Mom and guests enjoy these little ones. It was sad to have such angelic cookies fly away ;)

Cancer Awareness

I could never have anticipated the amazing women I would meet once I became a Mom. It’s like a whole new world opened up and I have to say, after stepping inside you quickly thank your lucky stars you’ve had the opportunity to meet some of these women. I joined a local mommy group when I had my second child and have to say I have the best play groups! I love all the adorable kiddos and enjoy the conversations the Moms have together. I’m not going to lie, it’s nice to have an excuse to get my ass outta the house too!!

Anyway, there’s a Mom in one of my play groups and she has to be one of the strongest, most optimistic women I have ever met. She’s an amazing mother to an almost 5 year old boy and twin (boy and girl) 1 year olds! Talk about time management! Yeesh! She goes nowhere without wearing her smile and has the best sense of humor. Heartbreakingly, her Mother was diagnosed with brain cancer not too long ago. She’s been commuting every weekend a couple states away to spend time with her Mother, which isn’t easy when your family doesn’t pack up easily into an overnight bag (which I’m sure would make things 100 times easier logistically!). I want her to know she’s not alone.

Cancer sucks. Watching a loved one go through cancer sucks even more. I would venture to say every American has been affected by cancer, either being diagnosed with cancer themselves or one of their loved ones. My Grandma died of cancer and I would give anything to have her back or to have had more time with her…God I’ve love to introduce her to her adorable great granddaughters :) I want my friend Mary to know she’s not alone. It’s not easy, but she has more support than she knows. Our hearts and prayers go out to you Mary!

Happy Mother’s Day Suzanne!

I feel like I’ve been “full steam ahead”, which is awesome, but have been feeling the down side which is I don’t have as much time to write my blog. I clearly need to figure this out because I’ve been missing this part!

A few days ago a friend’s husband emailed asking if I would create some Mother’s Day cookies for his amazing wife Suzanne. The word amazing is seriously an understatement too by the way! She’s a wonderful Mom and soooo deserves a little treat :) I was excited to make something for her. We decided on a cookie basket of flowers. I know I’m gonna hear about this but I’m gonna say it anyway…as a whole, it’s difficult for men to make decisions. So when her adorable husband emailed me I gave him two options…

  1. Bright and Vibrant
  2. Subtle and Pastel

And of course, he made the perfect decision :) Happy Mother’s Day Suzanne… you are an amazing Mom!

More Adorable First Communion Favors

So excited to have been asked to create 1st communion favors for a friend of a friend. I hadn’t met her or her family until the cookie delivery but I could tell she was an amazing person through our email exchanges. She had a few design ideas for her son’s event and so I demo’ed up a few options. She picked the design I liked best, going to show she was as cool as I thought she was going to be ;) I was excited to get started!

Blue and White… were our colors of choice. We decided on an oval cookie with swirls and a nice solid blue cross in the center. In a way, the swirls coming down from the top looked like rays from the heavens…I loved the thought of that!  They turned out very sweet and I hope Mitch has a memorable 1st communion and an amazing party with his family!

Giant Birthday Cookie

Ok folks…taking you back to my life pre-babies. I realize this was less than 2 years ago but it still seems like another lifetime for me. When I was a working professional, my little home away from homes was in a cubicle downtown Boston. If you’ve ever worked in a cubicle you know there’s not much room or privacy. You (hopefully) quickly become friends with those around you…people I dearly called my cube-mates.

Earlier this week, one of my old cube-mates informed me it was his birthday this weekend and asked for a “giant cookie” made by one of his favorite local businesses (ok I added that but I’m sure he’d agree hehe). I asked what he wanted and here’s what I got:

I’m partial to Dark and White chocolate, Macadamia nuts, pecans, pistachios, walnuts…okay, maybe I better stop while I’m ahead…this list truly goes on! :D See what U can do!

Just hope he likes the cookie and it helps him enjoy his birthday :) I have to say…I’m a little jealous of his weekend. Celebrating a birthday and cinco de mayo…fun!! Happy Birthday Rod!So, clearly this project was pretty open to my own designing…time to have fun! I figured chocolate cookie for sure…can’t compete against LilaLoa’s chocolate cookie recipe!! I hadn’t used nuts in any of my cookies but that wasn’t going to stop me! I decided to add a little pistachio crunch around the edges. Was thinking a balloon theme…I mean it’s a birthday right!! I was pretty sure I wanted to do balloons but when I saw CancunCookie’s latest design I knew 100% that’s what I wanted to do. I loved her sky/clouds! The color palette I chose was called Beaded Hues from Design Seeds. And as for the size…well shipping a “giant” cookie wasn’t as easy as I thought it was going to be. So I decided to make the giant cookie 3 smaller cookies that made a giant cookie when placed together :) Still takes up my largest serving platter!!
