First Communion Crosses

I was honored to have been asked to create some cookies for an upcoming 1st communion party for an incredibly adorable little girl. I actually got to meet her last night and she’s just precious. Her Mommy picked out matching precious cookies too! 4 dozen delicate crosses with little roses on them. Perfectly paired! I’m sure the party will be beautiful today :)

On a personal note, I just loved the way these cookies turned out that I made an additional 4 dozen! I’m shipping them to some very special ladies :) Of course in my sleep deprived haze I forgot to put any kind of note in the boxes to these ladies so I guess I’ll email them and let them know the surprise is on it’s way…or maybe it’ll make their day to just get a box of yummies in the mail :)

Versatile Blogger Nominee!

Hello world! Time to take a quick break from cookies and royal icing. A break to thank Candy over at Lovely Buns for nominating me for the Versatile Blogger Award. Thank you so much Candy! Super sweet of you and I”m so glad you’ve been enjoying my blog! Please stop by her blog and check out her delicious yummies! She’s a hoot too!!

Candy, here are the 7 things about me…probably more than you want to know! LOL

  1. In my 35 years, I’ve lived in 7 states and over 20+ houses/apartments! I’m an expert packer :)
  2. My dream job would be to own a floral shop. I wouldn’t have the skills to make any of the floral designs, but I’d just enjoy seeing and smelling the beauty every day!
  3. In my old life (before my two adorable kids) I was a total shoe hound! I had way too many shoes but in my opinion they all had a purpose.
  4. I played softball and volleyball in high school. I wasn’t all that good at it but I did hit a home run once in Jr. Varsity softball and blocked a serve during a volleyball tourney. My proud sporting moments :)
  5. I married the man of my dreams. I knew he was the man of my dreams before I even met him. It goes to show that waiting does work every once in awhile ;)
  6. I have a sixth sense for knowing if someone is a good person or not during our first couple interactions. Took me years to actually follow my intuition however. Now my friends are the most amazing people and I am truly blessed to have them in my life!!
  7. I have a cheese addiction. I really think I have a slight lactose intolerance issue but that doesn’t stop me. My favorite meal is a plate of dill pickles, soft swiss cheese, a can of smoked oysters and a handful of saltines.

According to the VBA rules, I need to nominate 15 of my favorite bloggers. This is the hard part!! I currently follow more blogs than I have time to look at. They are all amazing bloggers and their subjects are all dear to my heart.

These bloggers are A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!!! Please please please go check them out and say hi for me :)

Om Nom Nom Nom

My amazingly adorable niece turned two recently and her birthday party was this weekend. I know I’m partial, but my lord she is the cutest thing ever!! Such a cutie and growing so darn fast! My sister-in-law, who is beyond crafty and always knows how to throw a fabulous party asked me to make Cookie Monster cookies for the kiddo’s favor bags. I said, “Of COURSE!” hehe I already had the Elmo and Cookie Monster cutters (thank you to the awesome Karen’s Cookies for carrying them) so after a couple mock-ups we settled on the most perfect cookie monster ever! I wanted to make fur so I used a #233 tip and off I went. Added some tags with little bites out of them and they were ready to go!

Milk and Cookies

Yesterday I posted a picture of the Cookie Monster cookies I made for my niece’s 2nd birthday party. The theme of the party was actually “milk and cookies” and so I also made favors for the adults who came to her party. Taking inspiration from the adorable invitations that were sent out, I made the #2 look like a chocolate chip cookie inside baby pink circles. It was the first cookie I made with two cookies (circle and milk bottle) blended together and I have to say it came out pretty good. These cookies were HUGE and took some time to make but they were absolutely adorable. Adorable for my adorable niece’s birthday :)

Happy Birthday sweetie girl.

Auntie Kendra loves you so much!!

Royal Cookie Designs Website Launch!

I’m proud to announce the launch of my new website!

www.royalcookiedesigns.com

It’s a work in progress but I’m super excited to have it published and out on the web for people to view! I hope to update it frequently and with more pictures as the orders come in and I find the time (the latter being the bottleneck!!) Now I can start handing out my business cards too :)

Thank you to my husband for making the banner across the top…he continues to amaze me. Just when I think I know the guy he goes and pulls out something new. In this case…his artistic skills I never knew he had bubbled to the surface :)

I hope you’ll all head over to my site and check it out. Come back here and leave me a note letting me know what you think. I’m always open to suggestions too so let me hear em :) Thanks!

Let Summer Begin

Traditionally April in Boston is rainy and chilly. However, this April has been a little strange.  The last few days however were hopefully a little sneak peak into what our summer is going to be like! It was 80 degrees and I’ll tell ya…the girls and I totally took advantage of getting outside! We played at the park and got a little soaked in a new water table. I was more than happy to break out my flip flops and air out my little piggies too!

BRING ON THE SUMMER!!!!

Super Fly Fireflies

One of my amazingly good friends sent me the sweetest text last Friday congratulating me on the cookie biz. She said she was proud of me. I love her SO much and hearing something like that from her, one of the most independent, strong, faithful women I know, means more than she could know. (PS…I’m clearly the sappy one in our friendship!)

Anywho…she and a few of her friends are going hiking/picnicing this weekend and she wanted some favors for everyone. She gave me complete creative control (oh lord) and let me dream up the design. Their group mascot (OK this is the cutest thing ever and I’m quite envious that I don’t have a group like this!!) is the firefly so I wanted to incorporate that into the cookie. It was the first time that I wasn’t given any direction so I even got to pick colors! FUN!

I had just read a recent post by one of my fav bloggers The Sweet Adventures of Sugarbelle about mixing colors and she had a link to a site I’d never tried. The site was Design Seeds and you search for a color and it gives you a color palette. Simplest thing ever! And super cute palettes! The only color I knew I wanted for sure on the cookie was a bright yellow for the firefly’s glowing derriere. I searched for a bright yellow and fell in love with this palette:

Found the most adorable cartoon firefly that I used for inspiration and went at it. At the end I decided to put the groups name at the bottom. Hope the girls actually EAT these cookies and not just look at them! haha Enjoy ladies!

My Life’s A Zoo

Every once in awhile I sit back and marvel at what my life has become. Just a few short years ago I was busy bustling away as a professional woman…dealing with rush hour traffic, cranky customers, lazy co-workers and trying to find time to “find myself”. Fast forward and here I am a completely different woman…well on the outside at least ;) I’m now a stay at home Mom with two beautiful little girls and a passion for cookies. While the two lives sound vastly different, they really have many many similarities. While I used to work in a zoo…I now draw zoo characters for my almost 2 year old to test her “Mooooo’ing” abilities :) I wouldn’t trade it for the world!!

One of the blogs I stalk, LilaLoa, announced they were having a cookie design contest. I immediately saw my zoo animals and thought “Hey, why not!”. The design contest required that all entries use a certain cookie cutter (which I didn’t have so I used a homemade stencil) and the more creative the better. [Here are the official rules]

What started out like this (pay no attention to my daughter’s scribbles hehe):

Was mixed with 9 different colors of icing:

And turned into this:

I have to say I’d kiss any one of them :) Hope you like them. If you do…visit LilaLoa and vote for me!

Broken Cake

I just want to remind everyone that crappy days do happen

This cake did not happen. It just wasn’t in the cards. But that’s ok. I moved on…although it was incredibly therapeutic to wash it down the garbage disposal ;)

Happy 1 Year Blogaversary Carrie!

I couldn’t realize how many cool people I would meet through this blog. And when I say “meet” I mean virtually :) One of my fellow cake/cookiers, Carrie, mentioned about a month or so ago that she had been blogging for about a year and that her “blogaversary” was coming up. Having only been blogging since the beginning of the year I can attest this is a very special accomplishment!

I want to congratulate her in proper cake style :) When I saw this cake from My Cake School, I knew instantly it was the one I wanted to make for her.

Happy Birthday/Anniversary Carrie’s Creations!! I know it’s not until April 9th, but I couldn’t wait to say “WAY TO GO!!” I can’t wait to see what creations you have for the 2nd year :)

If you haven’t checked out her site before, please stop by…she’s very creative and has some really cute cookies that she’s shown off in various posts :)
